IPPG-BAS is a national scientific center for fundamental and applied research in the field of functional biology - an interdisciplinary field that studies the mechanisms by which genetic information, cellular processes and physiological responses determine the behavior and adaptability of organisms to a changing environment. After the successful first edition - FunBio1 (2025), with over 80 scientists from more than 10 countries, the IPPG, along with the Plant Physiology and Biochemistry Section of USB, is organizing the Second International Conference on Functional Biology (FunBio2, https://funbio.bio21.bas.bg). The forum will be held from 16 to 18.9.2026 at the IHS "Frédéric Joliot-Curie", Varna, and about 100 established and young researchers from the country and abroad are expected to participate. The conference covers 6 thematic areas - Plant physiology and biochemistry, Genetics and epigenetics, Cell and molecular biology, Biotechnology for sustainable development, Biodiversity and genetic resources, and Agrobiology and food science. Their combination creates an interdisciplinary platform for sharing results, discussing current trends and building partnerships. The working language of the conference is English, and the scientific contributions of the participants will be presented as plenary lectures, oral reports and poster sessions. A special round table is also planned for young scientists and doctoral students - a space for open discussion of current problems and exchange of experience. The theme of the conference is in line with the NSDSRRB 2017–2030 and the ISIS 2021–2027 in particular the thematic area "Industry for Healthy Living, Bioeconomy and Biotechnologies", and with the objectives of the European Research Area, the Horizon Europe Framework Programme and the European Green Deal for Sustainable Development and the Bioeconomy. The forum will stimulate dialogue between academia, business and society, and will create a basis for new joint initiatives.
