Currently, both researchers and policymakers increasingly recognize the need to apply an interdisciplinary and intersectoral approach to resource planning and management. To overcome dependencies and possible risks regarding the quality and quantity of water resources, energy and food security, the “WATER4REUSE” action ensures safe and effective water reuse by adopting a multifaceted approach in the presence of territorial, health, social, economic, regulatory and environmental constraints. The main objective of the activities under the action is to improve sustainable water management and to promote the recycling and reuse of treated wastewater and by-products through the application of innovative methods, technologies and policies. This will be achieved by fulfilling some specific objectives from a social, marketing, technical and management perspective.
The main objective of this project proposal is to assess the technologies that could be included in the development of a water reuse scenario, including both well-known or traditional, as well as emerging and innovative solutions. The selection, collection, systematization and organization of the data set will be carried out in terms of efficiency, reliability and optimal scale of exploitation, level of modeling and control, environmental impact, energy footprint, economic and social aspects of acceptability. The main approach in implementing the main objective of the project proposal under the “WATER4REUSE” action is the comprehensive approach, which consists of integrating and combining all available technologies for water reuse, including the processes of mobilization, purification, transportation, storage and distribution of water.
