The contrast between the exceptionally rich numismatic material found in Bulgaria and the pressing need for numismatics to be developed more systematically and comprehensively as an academic discipline in the country — ensuring a sufficient number of qualified experts to meet the needs — has led to significant changes in Bulgarian academic circles over the past six years. A team from the Faculty of History at Sofia University, with the decisive support of and in active collaboration with colleagues from leading academic institutions in Bulgaria and abroad, has not only made consistent, targeted, and successful efforts to overcome the lag in numismatic research within the academic community on a national scale, but has also managed to proactively introduce innovative practices and concepts in the international arena. In this way, our team is gradually advancing numismatic science and related fields in Bulgaria, thereby enabling it to be recognised as an equal and active partner in the international scientific development of the discipline. The international numismatic forum “3rd BulgNR & 2nd International Experimental Numismatic Workshop (IENW) TOGETHER” is a scientific event aimed at building upon the results achieved and launching a new phase of Bulgaria’s activities to develop research communities in the field of digital numismatics and numismatic studies from Antiquity to modern times. The event innovatively combines a theoretical forum within the program of the “3rd Bulgarian Numismatic Readings” (3rd BulgNR), Plovdiv, June 25–27, 2026, with the experimental application of an innovative workflow for the intensive processing of large numismatic collections within the framework of the 2nd International Experimental Numismatic Workshop, Sofia, June 28–July 3, 2026. Over 84 participants representing 49 institutions from 21 countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa have already registered for the joint event.
