The Swiss-Bulgarian Research Programme (SBRP) is part of the Second Swiss Contribution to selected EU Member States to reduce economic and social disparities within the European Union.
The Programme Component Operators (PCOs) for the SBRP are the Science Directorate at the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria, in collaboration with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). The two institutions are responsible for coordinating the implementation of the programme on the Bulgarian and Swiss sides.
The Swiss-Bulgarian Research Programme consists of three components:
- PROMYS – support to encourage young researchers from the European Union and Switzerland who have studied in Switzerland and wish to pursue an academic career in Bulgaria.
- Multilateral Academic Projects (MAPS) – support for multilateral joint research initiatives and the creation of sustainable partnerships in the field of scientific research among researchers and research organizations from Bulgaria, Switzerland, and other EU countries.
- Scientific Exchange Component (SCIEX) – aims to improve the performance of Bulgarian higher education institutions and research organizations by developing the scientific potential of promising young researchers, PhD students, and postdoctoral fellows, and by providing mobility opportunities for them to visit Swiss research institutions.
As a Programme Component Operator, the Science Directorate is responsible for managing all three components, organizing and participating in Steering Committee meetings, coordinating communication between Bulgarian researchers and the SNSF, organizing informational and public events under each of the three components, and ensuring compliance with the programme’s visibility and publicity requirements.

Управление на ШБПНИ: Координация и изпълнение на Швейцарско-българската програма за научни изследвания. Оператори на програмен компонент (ОПК) за ШБПНИ са дирекция „Наука“ в Министерство на образованието и науката съвместно с Швейцарската фондация за научни изследвания (SNSF), които ще координират изпълнението от българска и швейцарска страна.
Швейцарско-българската програма за научни изследвания се състои от три компонента:
- PROMYS – подкрепа за насърчаване на млади изследователи от Европейския съюз и Швейцария, които са учили в Швейцария и искат да развиват академична кариера в България.
- Многостранни съвместни научни проекти (MAPS) ще подкрепи многостранни съвместни изследователски инициативи и създаване на устойчиви партньорства в областта на научните изследвания между учени и научни организации от България, Швейцария и други страни от ЕС;
- Програмен компонент за научен обмен (SCIEX) цели подобряване на работата на българските висши училища и изследователски институции чрез развиване на научния потенциал на обещаващи млади учени, докторанти и постдокторанти и осигуряване на мобилност, позволяваща им да посетят швейцарски научноизследователски институции.
В качеството си на ОПК, дирекция "Наука" отговаря за управлението на трите компонента, организира и участва в срещите на Направляващия комитет по програмата, координира кореспонденцията между изследователите от българска страна и SNSF, организира информациони и публични събития по трите компонента, отговаря за спазването на изискванията за информация и публичност по програмата.
