The main aim of ABC-BIO-CAR is to boost the research conducted at Departments of Organic Chemistry and Synthesis of the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (UCTM) in Bulgaria as a Widening articipant through targeted twinning activities with three internationally-leading research institutions, namely the Italian National Research Council (CNR), the University Jaime I (UJI), Spain and National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), France. In particular, the aim will be to stimulate excellence and innovation capacity at UCTM primarily in the field of medicinal chemistry and chemistry of amino-acid derivatives, peptides and proteins. Twinning activities will include knowledge transfer and exchange of best practices between CNR/UJI/CNRS and UCTM. This project will entail significant benefits for all institutions involved in terms of enhancement of their Research and Innovation (R&I) capacity in science and technology and raising their staff’s research profile. The specific objective: To enhance the quality of and increase the R&I output of the Department of Organic Chemistry (UCTM) can be realized through achieving an excellence-driven research team and environment enabling top-class research work to take place in the particular field of research. For this reason specialized training, experts’ visits, know-how exchange, targeted networking with experts in the field, infrastructure sharing and subsequent upgrading, close interaction with UJI , with CNR and with CNRS for joint project implementation as well as co-supervision of early stage researchers(ESRs) are scheduled. Keeping gender equality involvement into activities is among the main rules. Quantified targets by the end of the project (compared to initial situation) are at least 2 co- supervised (by UJI and/or CNR/CNRS) PhD students; at least 30% increase of peer-review publications, at least one innovative product for potential application as well as at least one patent.
