Programme: Programme "Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises" 2021-2027

Planning region: All

Description

The applicant “MENLY KNIFE” Ltd. is a manufacturing enterprise with a main activity under NACE code 25.71 – Manufacture of cutlery, hand tools and general hardware, operating in its own production facility located in village of Chelopek, UPI I-79, block 12.
The company is situated in the North-West Planning Region of Bulgaria, designated as a priority region for support under the Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises Programme (CIEP), and belongs to the priority sector C25, characterized by high energy intensity.
The main production activity involves metalworking and manufacturing of kitchen tools and knives, using CNC milling and turning machines, presses, compressors, furnaces, and other energy-intensive equipment. The total installed capacity of the production machinery exceeds 70 kW, while the enterprise currently lacks any in-house energy generation capacity and is fully dependent on the public electricity grid, resulting in high operational costs and low overall energy efficiency.
To reduce energy dependence and improve production efficiency, the project envisages the construction of a photovoltaic power plant (PVPP) for self-consumption, comprising:
an inverter with a nominal capacity of 20 kW (AC);
photovoltaic panels;
an energy storage battery with a total capacity (kWh) not less than the DC capacity of the PV array.
The system will be integrated through an energy management system (EMS/BMS), ensuring priority self-consumption, optimized energy use, and the possibility for zero-export operation mode.
Expected results from the project implementation:
Commissioning of a 20 kW (AC) photovoltaic power plant for self-consumption;
Reduction of grid electricity consumption and energy costs by over 30%;
Enhanced energy independence and operational resilience of the production process;
Reduction of CO₂ emissions and contribution to the goals of the green transition;
Improved competitiveness and long-term sustainability of the enterprise.
