Sole Trader Katina – Katia Petrova is a leading manufacturer and supplier of all types of sun protection products for buildings, windows, and industrial doors. The main share in the production and revenue of the company is occupied by the production of PVC joinery and blinds. The main problem of the company is the high energy costs for production needs. This cost is transferred to the final product's price, which makes it difficult to maintain prices close to market levels. In the period from 2018 to 2019, the company implemented Project No. BG16RFOP002-3.001-0755 "Implementation of Measures to Increase Energy Efficiency of Sole Trader Katina – Katia Petrova," funded by OPIC 2014-2020. As a result, they installed and commissioned a rooftop photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 25 kW for producing electricity for their own needs. This investment was a step towards starting the use of green energy in production but is ultimately insufficient. The energy is used only during peak sunlight hours, without the ability to operate with renewable energy sources during periods of weaker or no sunlight. The energy produced by the PV plant covers only about 30% of the company's energy needs for production purposes. To build upon Sole Trader Katina's efforts to introduce renewable energy into production and ensure the sustainability of the results achieved in the previous project, we propose installing a local storage facility – a battery with a capacity of 122 kWh. It will be integrated with the existing PV plant, optimizing self-consumption and ensuring the company's independence from the dynamics of energy source prices. The new facility will provide flexibility in managing energy flows for production needs and reduce the company's energy costs while also lowering the cost of the final product. The project will be implemented in Dobrich within 12 months.
