The main objective of the project is to create an open digital collection dedicated to the Eastern Crisis (1875–1878), which will bring together a variety of visual and cartographic materials in one place: lithographs, photographs, graphics, maps, portraits, and visual evidence from key historical events such as the Constantinople Conference (1876–1877), the Congress of Berlin (1878), as well as from the participants in these processes.
The problem addressed by the project is the lack of an integrated visual database that traces not only the chronology of the Eastern Crisis, but also its spatial, geopolitical, and cultural dimensions. The novelty of the approach lies in presenting the crisis through a collection of visual evidence that places it in a broader global context.
The scientific approach involves the collection and analysis of visual and cartographic materials from existing digital collections and archives abroad (United Kingdom, France, Russia, Turkey, Austria, Germany, etc.), as well as from specialized databases. The methodology will be based on the tools of digital humanities, visual studies, and cartographic analysis, with a special focus on maps that offer a spatial and geopolitical understanding of the crisis.
The results of the research will contribute to the creation of an innovative digital resource; promoting interdisciplinary research in the field of digital technologies, visual history, and geopolitics in the Balkans and Eurasia; and stimulating new interpretations of the Eastern crisis as a global, networked event involving spaces, actors, interests, and visual representations.

Месец 1 – Подготвителен етап: Провеждане на обзор на наличните дигитални и физически колекции с визуални и картографски материали, свързани с Източната криза. Изграждане на критерии за подбор и систематизация на материалите. Установяване на контакт с партньорски институции (архиви, библиотеки, платформи). Започване на обучение в използването на ГИС, дигитални архивни платформи и бази данни (при необходимост).

Месец 2–3 – Събиране и обработка на данни
:
Систематично събиране на визуални източници (литографии, карти, фотографии, портрети). Стартиране на изграждането на дигиталната база от данни и първоначално структуриране на колекцията. Първичен анализ и класификация на материалите по теми и пространства. Представяне на проекта на една конференция.

Месец 4–5 – Разработка и анализ: Създаване на интерактивни ГИС-карти с вградени визуални материали. Изготвяне на аналитични бележки и научни обобщения за представените обекти. Подготовка на проект за научна статия/съобщение.

Месец 6 – Финализация и разпространение
: Завършване и публикуване на дигиталната колекция на сайта ИИстИ–БАН или специално създадено дигитално пространство. Планиране на следващи стъпки за надграждане на проекта и търсене на нови изследователски партньорства.
