Programme: Recovery and Resilience Plan

This project proposal would support the acquisition of intellectual property mainly related to the activities of the project "Using inorganic technogenic wastes in production of new construction materials with improved properties" implemented by Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The aim of this project is to demonstrate the possibility of producing new building materials with improved performance properties, using high percentages of wastes from key industries in Bulgaria.  
The proposal is a result of the work on this topic at the Institute over the last decade. The work on it follows the activities under Project BG05M2OP001-1.002 -0019, as well as two new projects under the National Science Fund, won in 2022 and 2023, which are mainly related to fundamental research on the characterization and use of industrial waste.  Unlike these, the contract "Use of inorganic technogenic waste to obtain new building materials with improved properties" aims to optimize specific compositions and regimes for obtaining several prototypes, with demonstration experiments at pilot level planned at the end of the project. Some of these compositions and production regimes are expected to be the subject of this project proposal for the protection of intellectual property.
After further study and characterization of the industrial waste and raw materials suitable for use in the project, the research will focus on the synthesis of the following materials:
• Ceramic materials (low-fired bricks and clinker bricks with improved mechanical properties). 
• Glass-ceramic sintered materials and composites with a granite-like appearance. 
• Insulating glass-crystal and geopolymer foam materials and composites based on them.  
In addition, other developments by the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the field of "Green Technologies and Resource Efficiency" are expected to be justified and announced.
