Markovo village has a population of 650 people with a permanent and current address. Markovo is a village in northeastern Bulgaria, located in the municipality of Kaspichan, Shumen province. There are no hospital facilities in the municipality. The medical care for the population is provided by MBAL - EAD, Shumen, and MBAL Dr. Dobri Berov EOOD, Novi Pazar. Due to the restructuring and closure of some healthcare facilities in the Kaspichan municipality, the Emergency Medical Care Center (EMCC) no longer functions, and the closest healthcare facility serving the residents of Kaspichan municipality is the EMCC in Novi Pazar, which is located 5.11 km from the municipal center, Kaspichan. Currently, there are only two general practitioners registered in the Kaspichan municipality. Markovo village is located 29.5 km from Novi Pazar, where MBAL Dr. Dobri Berov EOOD is located, and 23.7 km from the municipal center, Kaspichan. To reach MBAL EAD in Shumen, it takes about 35 minutes, sometimes longer, depending on traffic, to cover the distance of about 30-35 km.The Kaspichan municipality is one of the municipalities in the fifth step of the center hierarchy of the settlement network. In this regard, the established outpatient clinics in small settlements and remote areas will be available for general practitioners and other medical specialists, and the local administrations in these areas will have the opportunity to appoint specialists to serve the population, working in a good medical infrastructure. Although there is an existing healthcare office in Markovo, the conditions are not suitable for use by medical professionals, making its practical use difficult. Providing not only good infrastructure but also accessibility that benefits both medical professionals and the population contributes to the quality and efficiency of the healthcare services. It would also encourage the well-being of people living in areas far removed from municipal and regional centers.
