“The Hidden Beauty of the Northern Coast” is a documentary film that presents the little-known natural, ecological and cultural treasures of the northern Black Sea coast in Bulgaria. Through visually striking filming and personal stories of local people, the film reveals the unique connection between man, nature and art in this region.
“The Hidden Beauty of the Northern Coast” is an authorial documentary film by artist, director and architect Vivia Niki, created in 2025. The film takes the viewer on a visual journey through the Northern Black Sea coast – an area rich in biological and cultural diversity, but also threatened by urbanization, environmental pressure and social oblivion.
The film uses modern cinematography, aerial footage and expressive sound design to present the region as a “living, sensitive organism”. The artistic narrative is interwoven with scientifically validated information provided by archaeologists and ornithologists – including facts and statistics about endangered bird species and delicate coastal ecosystems. Through this combination of art and science, the film transforms knowledge into an emotional experience.
The film premiered in July 2025, with the first 15 test screenings in Sofia, Gabrovo ("Uzana Polyana Fest"), Krusha village (the "Awareness" festival), Ezerets village and Ahtopol town. A traveling cultural tour has been created, aimed at audiences in small towns and open-air festivals. The project proposal aims to carry out three screenings in halls of up to 100 people in Blagoevgrad district, Gotse Delchev town, Belitsa town and Kovachevitsa village, Garmen municipality.
